Last week, Actor Stephen Fry revealed that for the past few months, he has been battling prostate cancer. Fry credits early detection: “I felt my life was saved by early intervention so I would urge any of you men of a certain age to get your PSA levels checked.” One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. Stephen initially went to see the doctor for the flu, but at the urging of the doctor had a general check-up, which included having his PSA checked. His PSA came back as elevated, and an MRI and biopsy confirmed his diagnosis. Stephen, like many people, always thought of cancer has happening to someone else, “you don’t think it will happen to you.” Now, Fry is urging men to get yourself checked, and listen to the advice of your doctor.
