A recent study shows that patients with aggressive forms of prostate cancer, who undergo radiation therapy- including external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy- experience longer periods of time before metastasis or cancer recurrence than those who choose prostate surgery. Aggressive forms of prostate cancer usually include patients with a Gleason Score of 9 or 10, with a higher likelihood of spreading. The study found that after a median follow-up of six years and 2 months, patients who received radiation treatments, lived longer without experiencing biochemical recurrence or metastasis.
