Before you meet with your doctor for the first time, it’s a good idea to formulate a list of questions you want answered.  Be sure to write them down, so you don’t forget to ask any of them.  Also, bring someone along for moral support.  Having them there will help you emotionally and they will also be able to help you remember some of the details of the items discussed during your appointment.

Be sure that you understand everything that the doctor is telling you, and if you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification.

The saying “honesty is the best policy” is definitely relevant during your visit.  While some subjects may be hard or embarrassing for you to talk about, the doctor won’t be embarrassed and can help address any fears you may have.

Here is a great video to watch that addresses how to prepare for your doctor’s visit: “Tips for Talking to Your Doctor.”
